This comic talks about my experience of falling in love with laplap, the national dish of Vanuatu. My favorite by far is the laplap made with cassava (manioc). Below the comic you can see a picture of the real laplap and a brief description of how it’s made.

The real laplap

A photo taken in Erakor village. Laplap made with taro, coconut cream and cabbage leaves. Laplap is made by combining a grated ingredient, such as taro or cassava (manioc), with coconut cream. The mixture is placed on banana leaves , topped with another ingredient such as meat , shellfish, or cabbage, and cooked in a stone oven (very hot stones placed all over the laplap covered with leaves).
